Most people have heard of that good old Lay's saying "You can't just have one!", which refered to the fact that once a person eats a Lay's chip, they can no longer control their urges and must have another one. Well the article I read about also dealt with self-control, but in terms of sexual activities. No, it wasn't about how you can't just have sex once, but rather about how once a person is put into a situation where they are sexually stimulated, or to put it on a modern term, "turned-on", it becomes very unlikely that they will say no and stop themselves from actually engaging in sexual intercourse.
The article further explained that this was due to the fact that your emotions override all other inihibitions you may have at that moment. Fulfilling one's sexual desire overrides all other goals, such as making sure the relationship doesn't become damaged or making sure that there are no unplanned pregnancy. This article says that, therefore, the best way to combat unplanned pregnancy and premarital sex is just to not put yourself in situations where you are likely to be tempted. Like if your girlfriend's like, "hey i'm alone at my house right now and i'm really bored, wanna come over and play something, like iono..monopoly or boggle with me and we'll have some good harmless fun =)?" it's probably not a good idea, or else you might end up boggling her. if you know what i mean.
